NEW DELHI, Sep 1: People from various walks of life including leaders of NPP and other political parties of the national capital paid floral tributes to Late Purno Agitok Sangma, on his 75th birth anniversary here.
People started gathering in the morning at the National People’s Party (NPP) head office in North Avenue to pay respect to the departed leader on his 75th birthday. Purno had breathed his last at his official residence in New Delhi in March 2016 and his body was taken to Tura for last rites. But it turned into a poignant moment when Soradini K Sangma, wife of Purno, arrived in the party office and paid her tribute. The leaders discussed how from a remote region, Purno brought both the Northeast and tribals to focus at the national level. All were, however, unanimous that the great leader had many friends in all parties and was both loved and respected across party lines.
He held high positions both in the parties and in the governments culminating in occupying Lok Sabha Speaker’s post.
