SHILLONG, Sep 7: The six-day autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is set to begin on a stormy note on Friday with the Opposition fully armed to take on the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Government on a host of issues.
The judicial inquiry report on the death of former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew on August 13 last year will be tabled on the first day on the session. The report has been pending with the government since it was submitted by Justice (retired) T Vaiphei to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on March 29, 2022.
Opposition chief whip George B Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the Trinamool Congress will raise several issues during the session, prominent among them being the law-and-order situation in the border areas, opposition to the boundary pact signed between Assam and Meghalaya, price rise of essential commodities, in addition to the deficiencies in the health and education sectors.
Three days have been earmarked for government business – September 9, 13 and 16 while private members’ business will be conducted on September 12, 14 and 15.
The session will conclude on September 16.
