SHILLONG, Sep 11: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator Adelbert Nongrum on Sunday said he has moved a resolution to oppose the memorandum of understanding signed between Meghalaya and Assam in March to resolve the interstate border dispute in six of the 12 “areas of difference”.
“The NPP-led MDA Government has refused to review the MoU despite strong opposition from stakeholders, especially the people residing in the border villages,” Nongrum said, adding that the government cannot resolve the interstate boundary dispute by not respecting the sentiments of the people.
Nongrum also stated that he would table a resolution for review of the State Reservation Policy.
The lone KHNAM MLA also informed that he has moved a resolution on the problems faced by the teachers in the state.
“It is unfortunate that teachers are suffering due to the failure of the government to release their salaries on time,” he said.
Nongrum further said that he has moved a fourth resolution on the roster system since there is confusion over how the government is going to enforce it and another one seeking to scrap the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021 and also the plan to set up a casino in Khanapara area.
“I will also be asking questions about the inquiry commission report on the death of former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew,” Nongrum added.
He lambasted the state government for taking loans from various external agencies which are adding to the burden of the state exchequer. “My question is how the government will repay these loans when it has failed to stop revenue leakage,” Nongrum said.
