Body of rag-picker found inside PHE campus’ open transformer
Tura, Sep 12: The body of an yet to be identified man, suspected to be a rag picker, was earlier found this morning inside the PHE campus in Tura. The body was discovered earlier this morning, Sep 12, when MeECL linesmen went to the spot for repairs but found the dead man inside. The area that housed the transformer that supplies electricity to the complex was within the campus itself but was apparently not locked. As per sources, the death of the rag picker supposedly took place possibly during the weekend as decomposition had already set in when the person was discovered and could explain.

Fireman held in South Garo Hills over sexual harassment charge
Baghmara, Sep 12: A fireman, based out of Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills (SGH) was arrested after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 17 year old girl, following which a complaint has been registered. The incident allegedly took place on Sep 10 with the fireman identified as Morish Momin being arrested by the police on the same day following the complaint. “We have arrested him and forwarded him to 14 days judicial custody. The matter is currently under investigation,” said Siddharth Ambedkar, SP of SGH. The fireman in question has been suspended with immediate effect from the time of his arrest.

Training for BJP leaders, members
SHILLONG, Sep 12: Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and members were imparted training by the party’s central cell on various topics during a three-day training programme, which concluded on September 9. The training, which was held at the office of the state BJP, was attended by office-bearers, state executive members and morcha heads and district presidents. The attendees were imparted training on the principles and the doctrine of the party. State BJP president Ernest Mawrie also spoke on two state topics, viz. health and roads connectivity.

Call to bring back 108 ambulances
TURA, Sep 12: The All Meghalaya Minorities’ Students Union (AMMSU) has written to the Mission Director of National Health Mission in Shillong seeking the re-commissioning of 108 emergency service ambulances in the state. In its letter to the official, the AMMSU said that people from the state, who were greatly benefiting from the service ambulances are facing hardships since the last two months after they were put out of commission. The union urged the official to look into the matter and put them to use as soon as possible. “People from the state who need emergency services are facing difficulties due to the stop in services by these ambulances. However, they are highly required and we urged the department to put them to use once again for the benefit of the people,” the AMMSU said.
