Apple has officially unveiled its highly anticipated iPhone 14 range. The new series includes four phones: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This generation excludes mini versions and features two display sizes. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro have the standard 6.1-inch display, while the Plus and Pro Max models come with a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 14 will be released on September 16, 2022, starting at $799, while the larger iPhone 14 Plus will be available on October 7, 2022, starting from $999. They will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities with an array of finishes: midnight, blue, starlight, purple, and (PRODUCT)RED. Pre-orders for all phones start on September 9, 2022.

Apple has recognised the potential that tech essentials like smartphones have in a possible crisis. The range, therefore, introduces two special safety features. Each phone comes with the Emergency SOS helpline via satellite, a service allowing users to contact emergency services directly through satellites, even in remote places where a mobile phone signal is unavailable. Apple will launch the service in the U.S. and Canada in November.

All devices in the latest series include an advanced Crash Detection system that detects a car crash and automatically notifies emergency services. The camera has been significantly upgraded, with features such as the new ultra-wide lens, a front TrueDepth lens for enhanced low-light performance, Action mode, and an improved Cinematic mode.

Battery life is better than in the iPhone 13 series, with an estimated 26 hours of video playback on the standard iPhone 14 and 29 hours on the iPhone 14 Pro. In comparison, Apple estimates the battery life for the iPhone 13 at 19 hours.

The processor in standard iPhone 14 models remains the same as in the iPhone 13, an A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU, but updated for faster performance. The iPhone 14 Pro goes further with a powerful new A16 Bionic chip.

All iPhone 14 models will run iOS 16, the latest operating system from Apple. Fans can also expect new sharing features and an entirely redesigned and customizable Lock Screen.

Regarding connection capabilities, the iPhone 14 line supports a 5G network, and Apple removed built-in SIM card trays in favour of a digital eSIM in models shipped to the U.S.. Other countries will still be able to use physical SIM cards in their iPhones.

For physical protection, the series features a ceramic shield front cover. Apple claims it to be more durable than regular smartphone glass, offering better protection from drop damage or scratches and resistance to water and dust.

One of the biggest changes brought on with the release of the iPhone 14 Pro is Dynamic Island, a useful tab that replaces the infamous notch found at the top of current iPhone screens.

Additionally, all iPhone 14 models use recycled plastic materials and earth elements in their bid to reduce the impact on the environment.

With the upcoming iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, Apple introduces groundbreaking safety capabilities and improvements to existing technologies of their products. The iPhone 14 series comes with significant emergency services, a powerful new camera, extended battery life, faster performance with A15 and A16 Bionic, and advanced connection capabilities with 5G. Finally, the newly developed iOS 16 promises to enhance user experience further.
