KVK holds campaign on Poshan Abhiyan

SHILLONG, Sep 17: A national campaign on Poshan Abhiyan was organised in select districts of Meghalaya by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) on Saturday.
West Garo Hills
According to a statement, KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills, organised the campaign at its campus on Saturday.
The programme was attended by 65 people, including 20 Anganwadi workers.
“During the programme, 100 vegetable seed packets were provided by IFFCO and plant saplings were distributed to the participants,” the statement said.
West Khasi Hills
A similar programme was organised by the KVK in West Khasi Hills, which was attended by local headmen, KVK officials and 70 farmers.
According to a statement, the programme was organised with an aim to improve the nutritional status of children up to six years, adolescent girls, expectant women and lactating mothers to reduce low birth rate, stunted growth and undernutrition.
“The programme concluded with the distribution of vegetable seed kits and fruit saplings to all the farmers and farm women,” the statement said.
Ri-Bhoi
In Ri-Bhoi, the programme was organised by the KVK at ICAR for NEH Region, Umiam.
The programme was attended by 100 farm women from the district and the scientific fraternity.
“The importance of observing the day and importance of a proper nutrition for the well-being of the entire nation were discussed and highlighted during the programme,” the statement said.
Some of the highlights of the programme include awareness to farmers on nutri garden, nutri thali, nutri cereals, natural farming, nano fertilisers, et al, display of local produce, distribution of vegetable seeds and saplings, and plantation drive at KVK campus.
South Garo Hills
In South Garo Hills, CAU-KVK organised the national campaign and plantation programme at Farmers’ Training Centre, Warimagre, under Chokpot C&RD block, South Garo Hills.
During the programmes, talks were held on the importance of balanced diet on human health.
“A total of 120 farmers participated in the programme,” a statement in this regard said, adding that other highlights of the programme include distribution of saplings and seeds, and a plantation drive.
