Over 200 runners from abroad, India dart through village roads

SHILLONG, Sep 18: More than 200 runners from India and abroad competed in the Mawlynnong Runsafari Half Marathon along the picturesque countryside along the Indo-Bangla border on Saturday. The marathon was divided into three categories — 21.1 km, 12 km and 5 km. Runners darted through the village roads of Mawlynnong, Nohwet, Rewai and Nongeitniang.
It was a mixed marathon in which runners ran on village roads and trails and at one point had to cross across the root bridge located in a pristine environment.
The event was supported by Tourism department, Social Empowerment department, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, SDO (Civil) Pynursla, Shillong Press Club and the Mawlynnong village and the surrounding villages.
The event was flagged off in the morning by the SDO (Civil) Pynursla, EL Warjri, in the presence of SR Chowdhury, retired Assistant Director, Ministry of Tourism, Eastern region.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of 50 runners from Bangladesh. Most of the runners from Bangladesh were mesmerised by the scenic beauty of the area.
Meanwhile, in the 21.1 km female category, Darishisha Langjuh emerged as the winner in the female category with a timing of 1 hour 53 minutes and 53 seconds, Bandasharai Marwein came in second (2 hours 1 minute and 11 seconds) and Ibanriakor Lyngkhoi was third (2 hours 12 minutes 6 seconds).
In the senior female category, 74-year-old Kmoin Wahlang came in first with a timing of 2 hours 12 minutes and 32 seconds.
In the senior category, Jefferson Kharnaior (55) emerged first clocking 1 hour 55 minutes and 26 seconds.
In the 21.1 km male category, Jomsingstar Ramsiej crossed the finish line first, Batsrang A Sangma second, and Revaldo Rynjah third.
Under the 12 km Female category, DAPHISHISHA KHONGSAN held the first position, Kerrenner Wahlang Syiemlieh second and Phila Kyntiew Nongrum third.
In the 12 km male category, Dondor Nongkynrih was first, Kyntiewbor Kharluni second and Madan Rai of Assam third. (Contd on P-4)

(Contd from P-3) 5KM Female category results are Ibapyntngenlang Kharunni first, Baphilakyntiew Kharunni second, and Pinki Halder of Kolkata, West Bengal third. In the 5KM Male category Zublin A Sangma emerged first, Elect Shadap second, and Keshar Prasad Gupta from Kolkata third.
