Man gets RI for sexual assault of 6-year-old

SHILLONG, Sep 20: A family acquaintance of a six-year-old girl was, on Tuesday, sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 along with a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the victim for kidnapping and sexually assaulting her.
The crime was committed on June 6, 2018, and the accused, identified as Binod Tamang, had subsequently run away.
A case was immediately registered and Tamang was arrested.
The case was charge-sheeted in due course of time and sent up to the Special Court for trial.
During the judgment on Tuesday, the Court of Special Judge POCSO Court, Khliehriat, found the accused convicted under section 363 IPC R/w Sec 5(m)/6 of POCSO Act 2012.
