SHILLONG, Sep 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said Meghalaya’s first 5-star hotel – Taj Vivanta, Shillong – will be formally inaugurated on October 14.
“The Taj Vivanta is ready for inauguration on October 14. The inauguration is slightly delayed as the team from Taj (Group) has made more observations. It will take another five to ten days to add those requirements that the team has asked for,” Sangma told reporters.
The CM said there will be a soft launch of the rooms and other amenities before the hotel is able to welcome guests.
Sangma also made it clear that the President of India will not inaugurate the five-star hotel since it is a private property.
“It will not be appropriate for the President of India to come here and inaugurate it since it will be privately-run hotel. We will not waste time since we need to set up these hotels ahead of the large number of activities coming up in Shillong. We need accommodations for those events,” he said.
