SHILLONG, Sep 29: Meghalaya has been ranked as one of the top performing states in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday during his address at a function to inaugurate several developmental projects for West Shillong constituency.
“All of you will be happy to know that on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Hon’ble President of India will confer the award for one of the best performing states in the implementation of JJM, to our state,” he said.
On the coal mining issue, Sangma said the process of launching scientific mining in the state is already on with many individual miners having applied for prospecting licenses.
According to him, some miners have also submitted their mining plans for approval from different agencies for the scientific mining process.
“The process is based on the Supreme Court’s ruling in July 2019,” he said. “Let’s hope that some mining licenses are granted earlier than expected. We are keeping our fingers crossed but the process is a very complicated one,” Sangma said.
The High Court of Meghalaya had recently asked the state government to initiate a comprehensive process to give permission for legal mining.
