SHILLONG, Sep 30: A horde of people, including various organisations, took out a rally on Friday, demanding justice for the 19-year-old murder victim from Iewmawlong village in R-Bhoi.
It may be mentioned that the victim was murdered allegedly by her husband in broad daylight on Monday while she was on her way to work. The accused was arrested subsequently after the incident came to light.
Meanwhile, Friday’s public procession, which was organised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), was attended by Dorbar Shnong of Iewmawlong, women, youths, elderly citizens, and students of Alpha English Higher Secondary School and Ri-Bhoi College.
During the procession, which started from Iew Mawlong to culminate in Nongpoh, people were seen wearing black flag and carrying placards.
They were also seen shouting slogans, demanding that the guilty be brought to justice.
Later, a candlelight vigil was also organised to pay tribute to the victim.
It is pertinent to note that the town wore a deserted look as shops were closed as a gesture to condemn the incident.
