SHILLONG, Oct 3: A prominent businessman-cum-politician from Mawlai, Bahunstar Mylliemngap, passed away at a city hospital on Monday after coping with health issues for a prolonged period of time.
He was 53.
He is survived by his wife Balabet Rapsang and five children.
Mylliemngap was seriously ill for the past few months.
Fondly known as Bah Hun, he was one of the popular persons in Mawlai constituency, who played a big role in supporting any candidate in Mawlai constituency in the past elections.
Mylliemngap has many followers in Mawlai. His support for any candidate of his choice in Mawlai would give their opponent a tough fight in the elections — whether it was elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly or the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Mylliemngap will be laid to rest at the cemetery of Christ Church (Balang U Khrist), Mawlai Nonglum.
The funeral service will be held at his residence at Mawlai Nonglum Khliehshnong at 1 pm on Wednesday.
NPP Mawlai Block president and MDC, Teiborlang Pathaw, lamented the demise of Mylliemngap, who, he said, was instrumental in the formation of NPP unit in Mawlai.
One of the strongest pillars is now vanished, Pathaw said, as he remembered how Mylliemngap worked tirelessly in rendering services for the welfare of the people of Mawlai.
“Bah Hun’s demise has left a vacuum which is not easy to fill, but we hope and pray that he will bless us all from above. We pray that God will give strength to the bereaved family, and grant the departed soul eternal peace,” Pathaw said.
Joining the MDC in mourning the loss of Mylliemngap, the Mawlai Social Service Organisation (MSSO) expressed sorrow over his passing and recalled his association with the MSSO as its working president.
Mylliemngap was also one of the founding members of the organisation.
The MSSO described Mylliemngap as the “king maker” not only of Mawlai politics but “Ka Ri ki Laiphew Syiem.”
The organisation has also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the departed.
