SHILLONG, Oct 7: Senior BJP leader AL Hek on Friday advised Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to step down from the Cabinet on moral grounds.
Speaking to media persons here, Hek recalled that Rymbui’s own party leaders (UDP) had asked him to resign on moral grounds.
Condemning Thursday’s police action against the protesting contractual teachers, Hek said it was an inhumane act since there were women and kids in the peaceful rally and they were not even carrying anything which necessitated police to use tear gas against them.
The Congress also condemned the police action against the teachers.
“The teachers were agitating for their rights. Why tear gas should be fired at them?” MPCC working president PN Syiem questioned.
