SHILLONG, Oct 9: A determined Rajya Sabha member and NPP state president WR Kharlukhi on Sunday said that the numerous accusations of corruption against his party will have no bearing as since the opposition’s balloon will burst mid-air during the 2023 Assembly elections.
“There will be no bearing on the NPP as there is no truth in the allegations. If there is truth they should bring out the facts or go to the court or police. I call it a ‘politically cast balloon’ which will burst mid-air in the Assembly elections,” he said.
Daring the opposition to initiate action if they have any evidence, he said, “Don’t just point your gun. Shoot if you have the bullets.”
“In my opinion these allegations are just half-baked cakes and nothing else,” he said, adding, “If you see a thief you will file an FIR or call the police but if you have no evidence you won’t do anything. If they were speaking the truth they would have done something by now.”
The NPP-led MDA coalition is riddled with charges of corruption but nothing has been proven so far and none of the accusers, mostly political rivals of the party, have taken any legal recourse besides crying foul.
Meanwhile, talking about the upcoming 2023 polls, Kharlukhi said, “It will be fruitful for the NPP as we are not leaving any stone unturned and working hard and all the leaders are travelling across the length and breadth of the state and expecting a good harvest.”
Talking about other parties, the NPP state chief said, “I don’t know about other political parties but my assessment is that we don’t really know who will be our immediate opponent in each of the constituencies.”
He also ruled out any pre-poll alliance and said that the election results will determine whether the NPP should forge a post-poll pact with anyone.
