SHILLONG, Oct 16: Umroi airport, which currently has one flight connecting Shillong and Kolkata, may soon have one more additional flight operating between the two cities.
At present, Indigo operates a daily flight between Shillong and Kolkata.
Sources said that Spicejet has lately shown interest in operating a flight between the two cities.
According to the sources, the plan is in its initial stage and Spicejet has not yet applied to operate on the route.
However, it is confirmed that they are interested in running a flight between Shillong and Kolkata.
Informing that operating a flight requires several procedures and formalities, sources said there is potential to operate a second flight between Shillong and Kolkata on a daily basis as the single Indigo flight, which operates daily, remains fully occupied on most of the occasions.
As flight tickets for the route are reportedly expensive, the price of the tickets is expected to go down if there are more competitors.
