Umroi pays tribute to ex-MLA on death anniv

NONGPOH, Oct 18: Residents of Umroi constituency along with family members paid rich tribute to former six-time MLA EK Mawlong on his 14th death anniversary here on Tuesday.
A programme was organised at Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Mawbri, to commemorate the death anniversary of Mawlong and remember his contributions as an MLA of Umroi and the chief minister of Meghalaya.
During the programme, a book authored by Mawlong’s son (L) Ferdinand Lyngdoh about his father’s political career was released and meritorious students from the constituency were feted.
The book was released by the elders of the constituency, who were closely associated with and worked alongside Mawlong during his tenure as the Umroi MLA.
Umroi MLA George B Lyngdoh, in his address, remembered his father, Mawlong, and shed light on the book that was released on the occasion.
Lyngdoh, while referring to the book, informed about the contributions of his father during his tenure as Umroi MLA.
He said that Mawlong brought about a lot of major developments for the betterment of people the state in general and the constituency in particular.
As part of the programme, over 500 meritorious students from the constituency were conferred with EK Mawlong Academic Excellence Award.
Others who were part of the programme include locals and representatives from Umroi, church leaders, prominent persons from the district, et al.
