SHILLONG, Oct 19: Two MLAs from constituencies within Shillong — Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mohendro Rapsang — have expressed disappointed after a meeting with PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar on water crisis in the city was cancelled on Wednesday.
The minister was scheduled to have a meeting with Lyngdoh and Rapsang to discuss matters pertaining to water crisis but in the event of the meeting being cancelled, the two MLAs met Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and apprised him of an urgent need to sit with the Chief Minister and other ministers on the matter.
“We are still unhappy with the scenario on the quality of water, quantity of water and inadequate distribution of water,” Lyngdoh said, while warning that the situation will get more complicated during the dry season.
The state government had recently assured to address the water crisis faced by the residents of Shillong, particularly in East Shillong and West Shillong.
The assurance came after the issue was flagged by Lyngoh and Rapsang in a meeting convened by Chief Secretary DP Wahlang recently.
