SHILLONG, Oct 19: Albeit the state government and the IIM Shillong have announced their collaboration to improve mobility in the state capital, the Khyndai Lad junction continues to remain bedevilled by traffic congestion with Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses stationed there reportedly exacerbating the situation.
Taking note of the issue, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has already appealed to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo to pull the plug on this practice.
Terming this a menace, STP officials have said that they want the buses not to enter Police Bazar and rather take a turn from either DC office point or IGP point.
It is learnt that the DC has sought a report from Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) on this matter before taking a call.
The SPTS buses are under MUDA.
Apart of stationing of SPTS buses at Khyndai Lad, it can also be seen that parking of other vehicles has attributed to the traffic woes.
While one side of the road has been turned into a parking zone for government and army officials, the other side of the same road is designated as taxi stand and is taken up by cabbies to park their vehicles.
Such an arrangement has precipitated a bottleneck, due to which vehicles are coerced into plying on a small portion of the road.
