‘SRIJAN’, an art and craft exhibition, was on Friday organised by Army Public School, Umroi, on the school premises. According to a statement, professional works were put also on display, apart from art and craft exhibits, during the programme. Some of the major attractions of the day include sculptures and paintings by local artist Khraw Kuparlanong, railroad modelling by Lt Colonel Debasish Dasgupta and costume design and painting by Ambika Burathoki. “A day-long programme of traditional and folk dances was another flavour of the exhibition,” the statement informed.

Kali puja
The Sri Sri Thakur Suryananda -O-Yogamaya Kalimata Seva Sangha, Yogamaya Ashram, will celebrate Sri Sri Dipanwita Kali Puja on October 24 on the Ashram premises at Three Pine Colony, Lower Laban. A statement in this regard informed that while the opening of the Ritualistic Function (Adhibasha) will be held on October 23, other programmes such as Mandir Parikrama and Mangal Arati, chanting of scriptures and Slokas from Bhagwad Gita and Sri Sri Chandi, Special Worship of the revered Guru Maharaj, Goddess Kali and Mahakal Puja, Kumari Puja, et al, are slated for October 24.

Dry day
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Excise) has declared October 24 as dry day on account of Diwali. In this regard, all bonded warehouses, IMFL ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ shops, home delivery licensees, canteens and outstills have been directed to remain shut on the aforesaid day.

Resignation
Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee president Kansing Lyngshiang on Friday resigned from the state congress citing personal reasons. “I would like to inform you that I am resigning my position as the president of Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee due to my personal reason,” Lyngshiang said in his letter to MPCC president Vincent H Pala. A state Congress leader has, meanwhile, said that the personal reason cited by Lyngshiang is nothing but an intention to switch over to the National People’s Party.

Programme
Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai will inaugurate the Children Greenery Park and lay the foundation stone for PWD Road at Madan Laban, during a programme at 11:30 am on Saturday at Madan Laban Community Hall.
