SHILLONG, Oct 23: With sitting Mawphlang MLA Eugeneson Lyngdoh yet to officially announce his candidature for the upcoming Assembly polls, the United Democratic Party (UDP) top leadership is contemplating fielding People’s Democratic Front (PDF) general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh from the constituency next year.
Earlier in August, PDF president Gavin Miguel Mylliem had already announced that the party will field Auspicious from Mawphlang constituency. However, sources have revealed that Auspicious is yet to accept the offer made by the UDP leadership.
Interestingly, a section of media has also reported that the UDP is planning to field George Sun, son of former MLA JA Lyngdoh.
Reacting to this, JA Lyngdoh expressed surprise over the development that the UDP is planning to field his son.
He, however, admitted that there was an offer from select UDP leaders from Mawphlang for the same.
Maintaining that if the UDP wants his son to contest then they should show that the people and party supporters of the constituency are supporting this move, Lyngdoh said, “The UDP never came after I had put up this condition. I was also upset as the UDP leaders directly approached my son without taking me into confidence.”
