SHILLONG, Oct 26: Almost two weeks after its grand inauguration, the state’s first five-star hotel — Vivanta Meghalaya — is yet to open its doors to welcome guests.
It now appears that the inauguration, which was claimed to be a feather in the cap of the National People’s Party-led MDA Government, was rushed.
A source told The Shillong Times on Wednesday that no date has been fixed as yet to open the hotel for guests since the painting work is yet to be completed.
A day after its inauguration, photos of the stained rear area of the building had gone viral on social media, causing much embarrassment for the government.
The source said workers were engaged to paint the first floor and the rear part of the hotel and is expected to be completed by November 10.
The hurried inauguration of Vivanta Meghalaya before it was fully completed has its parallel in the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah even before the construction work was completed. The ISBT, inaugurated in July 2021, was finally made operational in April this year. Within two months, pictures and videos of water leakage and other damages had started doing the rounds on social media.
