SHILLONG, Oct 27: The state government has directed the Home (Political) department to circulate the report of inquiries into the alleged “rice scam” and irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to all members of the state Legislative Assembly.
“We will circulate the reports among all the members of the Assembly and the task has been entrusted to the Political department,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Thursday, recalling the commitment he had given in the Assembly.
The Justice (retired) RN Mishra-headed commission, which probed the alleged irregularities in the MeECL, submitted its report to the government in March this year.
It was assigned to look into records and make recommendations concerning the functioning of the MeECL and its three subsidiary companies – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The probe covered the period from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2021.
The state government also received the report of the “independent” probe into the rice scam.
However, neither of the reports has been made public so far.
