SHILLONG, Oct 27: The Court of Special Judge (POCSO) FS Sangma on Thursday convicted Risan Roy Kharkongor of raping a three-and-half-year old minor in 2013. The case was registered at Madanrting police station.
Special Public Prosecutor E Rynjah said the convict was sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act in addition to a fine of Rs 50,000.
In case of default of fine, the convict shall undergo another six months of imprisonment, she said.
Rynjah said the convict has also been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment under Section 10 of the POCSO Act and fined Rs 10,000. In case of default, the convict will need to serve another 6 months in prison.
The Special Public Prosecutor further said the convict has also been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment under Section 366A of IPC and fined Rs 10,000 and in case of default will serve another 6 months in jail. The convict was also sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment under Section 506 of IPC and fine of Rs 10,000 and in case of default will serve another 6 months.
All the sentences will run concurrently, she added.
