SHILLONG, Oct 29: Once declared a candidate of the State Congress for the Mawkynrew contest in the upcoming polls, Kansing Lyngshiang, on Saturday, joined the National People’s Party (NPP) following which he was also declared the NPP’s official candidate from the constituency.
“What a grand welcome at Mawkynrew Constituency for the National People’s Party as we welcomed our candidate Kansing Lyngshiang,” Chief Minister and NPP national president, Conrad Sangma, said
The NPP chief asserted that Lyngshiang is backed by people who believe in his capacity to lead them and the constituency forward.
“I also heartily welcome all his supporters to the NPP. Together we will work for their welfare and bring development to Mawkynrew Constituency. I thank them for their warm show of support,” he added.
It was in May this year when the Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee (MBCC) declared Kansing Lyngshiang as the party’s candidate for the upcoming 2023 assembly elections while heaping praise on him for his contribution to society during the COVID-19 shutdowns.
Lyngshiang, however, quit the party citing personal reasons and joined the NPP.
He will contest against PDF legislator and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh in the polls.
