SHILLONG, Oct 31: The mid-day meal workers, mostly women from different districts of Meghalaya, on Monday resolved to push the state government to increase their monthly honorarium from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.
Speaking to reporters after their meeting at Madan Iewrynghep, adviser of the mid-day meal workers KL Pariat said they have decided to give ten days to the state government to fulfil their demands. He warned that the mid-day meal workers would agitate on the streets if the government failed to address their demands within the given deadline.
“We want the state government to release the honorarium for 12 months and not ten months. The midday meal workers are not getting salaries for December and January,” he said.
Pariat said they had recently met the Commissioner and Secretary of Education department who assured them that the Cabinet will meet to deliberate on the proposal and take a final call on their demand.
