SHILLONG, Nov 1: Days after Meghalaya was adjudged as one of the best-performing states in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Tuesday surmised that the state government might be lying to the Centre about the JJM progress in the state.
Speaking during a block committee meeting at Mawryngkneng, Mukul said, “I was questioned on how the government received the best performer award for JJM? Maybe the MDA government has started lying to the Government of India as well. Each time before the elections, the MDA government makes it a habit to lie to the people for electoral gains.”
Referring to the Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion Programme, he said, “The MDA government tried its level best to demonise the Basin Development Programme. The irony is that the MDA government could not carry forward the programme.”
“With the number of irregularities reflected in the media reports, I was shocked to realise that they had started to use the Basin Development Programme for their greed. Those media reports are disturbing,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the meeting was attended by Meghalaya TMC president Charles Pyngrope, Opposition Chief Whip George B Lyngdoh, among other TMC leaders.
