SHILLONG, Nov 3: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the state government to consider applying modern concepts to the under-construction correctional home at Nongstoin and the proposed correctional home that is to come up around Shillong.
A division bench of the High Court, while hearing the matter, observed that while no major issue or impediment appeared in the way the correctional homes were being run, there always is room for improvement.
“There may not be any immediate need for further directions, but the matter is not disposed of so that the continuing process of improvement of the conditions in the correctional homes in the State is not arrested as a result thereof,” the High Court said.
Referring to a report submitted by Amicus Curiae, a copy of which has also been forwarded to the state government, the High Court said, “The State is requested to look into the report and the suggestions contained therein, particularly in ensuring that the modern concepts are applied at the new correctional home which is under construction at Nongstoin and the proposed correctional home to come up around Shillong.”
