SHILLONG, Nov 3: As part of the preparations for the 2nd North East Olympic Games here, an orientation programme for medical personnel including doctors, nurses, paramedical and volunteers to familiarise them with their roles and duties during the upcoming Games was organised by the Directorate of Health Services and District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Thursday.
The discussions during the orientation programme ranged from ‘orientation on dope control programme, prohibited list and health consequences of doping etc., classification of injuries, management of common injuries and transportation to nearest health facility, physiotherapy procedures in sports injuries, basic life support, types of sports injuries and management of common fractures and dislocations encountered during sports events, orientation on sports disciplines, venues and medical teams’.
The programme was inaugurated by Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, RM Kurbah. Others who attended the programme include DHS (MI) Dr HC Lyndem, DM&HO, East Khasi Hills, Dr Adreena Lyngdoh, Project Officer, National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), Dr Ankush Gupta, general secretary, MSOA, Finely L Pariat, Prof & HOD of Orthopaedics, NEIGRIHMS, Dr Bhaskar Borgohain, Sr. Orthopaedic Surgeon, Civil Hospital Shillong, Dr NP Laloo, among others.
The resource persons were Project Officer, NADA, Dr Ankush Gupta, Sr. Orthopaedic Surgeon, Civil Hospital Shillong, Dr NP Laloo, Prof. and HOD of Orthopaedics, NEIGRIHMS, Dr Bhaskar Borgohain, and Sr. M&HOs, DHS, Dr Arwan Phanbuh, Dr Robert R Marak and Dr Apurba A Marak.
