SHILLONG, Nov 4: Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, who is also the chairman of Mawmluh-Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL), on Friday said he had visited Kolkata last month to check the credentials of the Bhavika Commercial Private Limited (BCPL) as asked by the state government.
The BCPL evinced interest to run the MCCL.
Shylla said, “Last month we went to Kolkata to check the cement plant of BCPL. We had asked for documents, including balance sheet. We are still waiting for the papers.”
Asked if the government will finalise the deal with the firm, he said, “We have not gone deep into that.”
“It is just that one party has come forward. We are checking, authenticating and carrying the process forward but we have not yet finalised anything as we need to know the micro details,” Shylla said.
He said it was made clear to the BCPL that the state government will hold 51% ownership if the deal is finalised.
To a query, he said, “We have to check thoroughly and we are trying our level best to complete the process as soon as possible but it is a complex one.”
Satisfied with the presentation made by the BCPL, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had instructed Shylla to visit the company’s cement plant and find out whether it has the expertise to manage and operate the MCCL. Some officials had accompanied him.
Three firms had applied against the expression of interest (EOI) for the joint venture to operate the MCCL but only the BCPL came forward to give a presentation before the MCCL board.
