BSF cycle rally receives grand welcome in city

SHILLONG, Nov 14: Carrying the message of patriotism and fraternity along borders, a BSF cycle rally which began from Tripura received a grand welcome upon reaching Shillong on Monday.
The rally was honoured by Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya, Inderjit Singh at the BSF camp in Mawpat.
So far, the cyclists have completed a journey of 665 km and are headed next to Guwahati.
The cyclists interacted with schoolchildren, NCC volunteers and youth in several locations along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
As part of their ceremonious entry in the city, BSF Jazz and Brass band enthralled the cyclists by playing patriotic songs followed by a cultural programme presented by troops of 193 Bn and 110 Bn BSF.
The rally is expected to conclude in the upcoming days upon reaching South Bengal; the cyclists will have completed a total distance of 2200 km by then.
Notably, propagating awareness on transborder crimes and narcotic transactions has also been named as a key objective of the rally.
Inspector General Inderjit Singh Rana, while addressing the gathering at Mawpat, said that the cycle rally is part of the nationwide ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations and is as such, held to celebrate and commemorate the 75th year of India’s indepedendence.
He also said that this rally will spread the message on national integration and patriotism all throughout its journey.
It will also boost the morale of youths of the country and will encourage them to join the Border Security Force.
