11 villages to benefit out of road project in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN, Nov 17: As many as 11 villages will benefit from a project which has been designed to upgrade and improve internal roads in Nongstoin Town covering a length of 20.91 kilometres; for which the foundation stone was laid by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday.
Tynsong was accompanied by Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat and Mawshynrut MLA Gigur Myrthong.
The road project, which costs Rs 29.01 crore, will be implemented under Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) and funded by the World Bank.
The eleven villages are Upper New Nongstoin, Mawkawah, Nongstoin, Mawrok Porsohsat, Tiehsaw, Mawiong Lumsyntiew, Pyndengrei, New Nongstoin, Siejlieh, Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng and Ladweitang.
On the day, the deputy CM also inaugurated the U Sibsing Syiem PWD Inspection Bungalow, Nongstoin.
Addressing the gathering, Tynsong said the tender for work will be floated soon.
He emphasised that good roads expedite development and help ease the lives of general public in all aspects.
Tynsong, also the PWD Minister, said the newly inaugurated inspection bungalow will be named after the Syiem of Nongstoin, Sib Singh Syiem, who was the last chief to sign the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement, as a token of gratitude to his contribution towards the society.
Meanwhile, the Nongstoin MLA handed over a pick-up truck to West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman Nongstoin Town Committee, Garod LSN Dykes, to aid in waste disposal.
