SHILLONG, Nov 17: The third phase of the ambitious Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) is likely to miss its targetted deadline of December due to lack of permission from some localities for pipe-laying work.
PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar on Thursday said the government is trying its best to complete the project by December.
“We have not yet surrendered our plan to complete the project by December. We would like to inaugurate the project within this year,” Tongkhar said, adding that the contractors have also assured that they would try to finish the work within the set deadline.
Tongkhar said the project was facing problem with laying of the pipes as some of the localities are denying permission.
He also revealed that the PWD and PHE need to resolve some of the differences before the project is completed.
The PHE Minister said he has asked the contractor to find a solution so that the people do not face problems in view of the digging of the roads for pipe-laying work.
“I have also assured the contractor to intervene at all levels if they face any problem. But so far none of the contractors has approached me,” he added.
