Drugs worth Rs 14 cr seized in RB, three held

NONGPOH, Nov 18: In one of the biggest seizures of contraband drugs in recent memory, Ri-Bhoi Police on Monday seized heroin worth around Rs 14 crore in the international market from a night super bus (MN01 AA 0484) which was on its way to Shillong from Manipur.
Police arrested the driver of the bus and two helpers identified as Saddam Hussain (34), Md Iqbal Hussain (31) and Rashijuddin (33), all hailing from Bishnupur district of Manipur.
Based on credible inputs, Ri-Bhoi police intercepted the bus on NH-6 near Saiden village at around 5 am on Monday and recovered 158 soap boxes containing heroin concealed in the rear cabin. The drug weighing around 1.85 kg.
Police said the bus was transporting students from Manipur to Shillong on a study tour and police had to arrange another vehicle for the students to reach their destination.
Headman of Saiden village Successful Lyngdoh lauded Ri-Bhoi Police for making one of the biggest haul of drugs in the district and the state and extended his full support to the Police department in its war against drugs.
