SHILLONG, Nov 26: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Ministry of Minority Affairs John Barla has been asked to sanction funds to the tune of Rs 53 crore for the construction of centenary building at Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital in Jaiaw.
It may be mentioned that the Union MoS had recently paid a visit to the hospital with aspiring BJP candidate Michael Kharsyntiew and other leaders of the party.
During his visit, Barla was apprised of the role played by the hospital in providing treatment to the people from Shillong.
The Union MoS congratulated the hospital authorities on the 100 years of service to the people and expressed his gratitude to the hospital’s contribution in the uplift of state’s healthcare.
During the visit, Kharsyntiew also informed Barla about various needs and future plans of the hospital, especially the construction of the centenary building for around Rs 53 crore.
Asking the Union MoS to look into the appeal by the hospital authorities and the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod for sanction of funds to construct the centenary building, Kharsyntiew said this will not only bolster the healthcare infrastructure of the region but also the bond between the Centre and the people of Meghalaya.
Later during the day, the Union MoS along with state BJP president BJP Ernest Marwrie and other senior party leaders called on Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.
During the meeting, Barla requested the Archbishop to work in tandem with the central government to bring about development, peace and transparency for the people.
