SHILLONG, Nov 28: Senior political leaders from Meghalaya including ex-CEM from National People’s Party (NPP) Dipul R Marak joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Monday.
Along with Marak, former two-time MDC from NPP Sukharam K Sangma, MDC candidate from UDP Elbert Marak, ex-Rangbah Shnong Debajit Warjri, Assistant Director of Sport NEHU and Rangbah Dong of Golflink Durbar, Pradip Blah, Senior Advocate of the High Court of Meghalaya, VGK Kynta, and Advocate Richesly Jana Nongbet also joined the saffron brigade.
The joining ceremony was held at the state party office, where the national secretary of BJP, Rituraj Sinha, launched the party’s membership drive.
Speaking at the gathering, Sinha highlighted the contribution of the BJP in the development of Meghalaya through various central government schemes, and how they have touched the lives of people in the state.
Sinha claimed that people across the state are eager to join the BJP.
He invited more people to join the BJP’s fight led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against corruption and for pro-development agenda for the state. Sinha introduced the gathering to a slogan ‘Modi for development, BJP for Meghalaya’ while launching the membership drive.
While joining, the leaders expressed their trust in the leadership of PM Modi while endorsing the pro-people policies of the BJP over the last eight years. They said while neighbouring states under BJP government have raced ahead in terms of development, the people of Meghalaya have been denied these benefits because of the ‘corruption’, lack of policies, intent, and because of plain simple ‘incompetence’ of various governments that have already mis-governed Meghalaya, a statement issued here said.
Party leaders including national vice president of the BJP and Meghalaya in-charge of BJP, M Chuba Ao, Pynthorumkhrah MLA Alexander Laloo Hek, State BJP president Ernest Mawrie and others were also present in the programme.
