Ri-Bhoi border panel holds first meeting

NONGPOH, Nov 30: The first meeting of the Regional Boundary Committee for Ri-Bhoi District was held at Nongpoh on Wednesday.
It comes close on the heels of the firing incident at Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills district.
The committee, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, held a discussion with the stakeholders during which the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Khyriem, Syiem Raid Nongtung and others handed over land documents on their respective claims to Tynsong for verification.
The deputy chief minister said that the areas of differences in Ri Bhoi district includes Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Desh Doomreah and Block II.
The meeting discussed Desh Doomreah and Block II.
The discussion on Borduar and Nongwah-Mawtamur will be held later.
Tynsong called upon the traditional heads of these four areas to come forward and submit their land documents if their land falls within these disputed areas.
He said the meeting was convened to know about the views and suggestions of the stakeholders.
He said the committee expected them to provide with valuable inputs, such as land documents, for verification before it holds a joint meeting and conducts a joint inspection of the sites with its Assam counterpart.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, KHADC Executive Member Jambor War, Jirang MDC Victor Rani, Umroi MDC Rangkynsai Kharbuki, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhayay, Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad, Syiem of Hima Jirang H Wahlang, Syiem of Hima Khyriem Balajied Sing Syiem and headmen of villages bordering Assam and village elders.
