SHILLONG, Nov 30: The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday raked the state government over the coals for failing to reach out to the pressure groups to allay their fears. The opposition also censured the government for failing in its duties to reassure the citizens.
TMC leader George B Lyngdoh said the administrative highhandedness of Assam, through use of brutal force, has triggered fears of a law-and-order breakdown on communal lines leading to widespread fear and anxiety among the citizens.
“There is an artificial calm that is hiding the fear of the people, Lyngdoh said, while pointing out that the government failed to take steps to reinforce peace by telling the people that it was not a communal conflict.
The TMC MLA said the Mukroh incident has lead to a sense of insecurity among the youth who feel that they are being suppressed by various forces inside and outside the state. “It is time the government realizes that peace cannot be brought just by sitting on the cozy chairs of the Secretariat and blaring sirens,” he said.
“As leaders we are expected to reach out to the masses and restore peace and tranquility through action and not words,” he added.
