SHILLONG, Nov 30: The United Democratic Party (UDP) which had postponed the announcement of its first list of candidates following the Mukroh incident is likely to declare the list on December 8.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said the party was scheduled to make the announcement on November 22 but did not do so as mark of respect for the bereaved families and in protest against the highhandedness of the Assam police.
He said the first list of candidates would be a sizeable one.
Mawthoh did not reveal the number of seats the party would contest in the polls due in February next year. “We will try to put up candidates in as many constituencies as possible and we hope to win most seats,” he said, exuding confidence that the UDP would be in the driver’s seat as far as government formation is concerned.
