MAWKYRWAT, Dec 4: Mawkyrwat MLA and PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar has said that the much-awaited 100-bed hospital in South West Khasi Hills district’s Mawkyrwat will be inaugurated soon.
He said this while releasing the MLA schemes for fiscal 2022-23 during a meeting at his office on Saturday.
Speaking at the meeting, Tongkhar said the 100-bed hospital has been the dream of the people of the Mawkyrwat constituency in particular and the South West Khasi Hills district in general.
“The inauguration of the hospital is only a matter of days. Once it is functional, we can decongest the Mawkyrwat CHC and avail of the X-ray and other facilities at the hospital,” he said.
“I will be meeting the chief minister for the inauguration because I wanted him to come again to Mawkyrwat before the Assembly election. But if he is not free, we will inaugurate it by ourselves because we have finished everything, including the building, electricity and the sanctioning of posts,” Tongkhar said, thanking Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his cabinet colleagues for helping bring development to the state.
He also informed that the MDA government has sanctioned the Mawphlang-Weiloi-Mawkyrwat road and floated the tender for the intermediate road from Lad Mawreng to Weiloi. “We are still fighting to get the remaining portion from Weiloi to Umjarain in South West Khasi Hills district sanctioned,” he added.
Tongkhar also said the government wanted to keep the Mawphlang-Mawkyrwat road as an intermediate lane and proposed to connect South West Khasi Hills with a National Highway from Sohiong via Nongspung to Umjarain and Mawkyrwat.
Various schemes and projects in the Mawkyrwat constituency worth Rs 2.79 crore were announced for fiscal 2023-23.
These projects are the Special Rural Works Programme, Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund, Intensive Arts and Culture Development Programme, Development of Traditional Folk Music and Intensive Sports and Youth Development Programme.
