SHILLONG, Dec 4: Suspended Congress MLA from East Shillong, Ampareen Lyngdoh has neither confirmed nor denied receiving offers to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
She would be taking a decision by next week after completing the consultations with her supporters in the constituency, she told The Shillong Times.
Asked if the BJP has approached her, Lyngdoh said: “We (the suspended Congress MLAs) are open to discussion with the interested political groups in touch with us.”
She insisted that the people’s suggestions would be kept in mind before a decision is taken.
There are speculations about the BJP approaching Lyngdoh, who was reportedly set to join the National People’s Party.
The BJP is learnt to have approached several MLAs, including Lyngdoh and Trinamool Congress president Charles Pyngrope in the last few months.
Another TMC leader, George Lyngdoh, is known to have rejected an offer from the BJP.
Some MLAs, seeking anonymity, said the BJP has been “too late” in approaching the MLAs in poll-bound Meghalaya for jumping ship.
“I could have given the idea a thought if they had approached me six or eight months ago. They are approaching me at a time when I have already covered my constituency and have explained my plans to the voters,” an MLA said.
