Prog expresses concern over drug menace in M’laya & NE

SHILLONG, Dec 4: Attendees at an awareness-cum-medical camp, which was organised in the city on Saturday, have aired concern over the drug menace in Meghalaya in particular and the Northeast in general.
According to a statement, the camp was organised by Seng Samla Lum Marboh, Nongrah, in collaboration with Rynjah State Health Dispensary, and was attended by youths, Asha workers, women and elderly persons.
Speaking during the programme, Nongrah headman Ban Pyngrope aired concern over the situation in Mizoram due to use of drugs.
Maintaining that Meghalaya is gradually headed to that direction, he, however, expressed hope that social evils in Nongrah will be eradicated with concerted efforts of the youths of Dong Lum Marboh, Nongrah.
Appealing to the youths of Dong Lum Marboh to be mindful of anti-social elements, Pyngrope also touched upon the importance of health in physical and mental activities.
Senior District and Health Medical Officer, Dr. H Synmon of Rynjah State Health Dispensary, also echoed Pyngrope on the rising incidence of drug abuse.
Adviser of Seng Samla Lum Marboh, S Jungai, on the other hand, lauded the local youth organisation for shouldering the responsibility to look after the welfare of the locality.
Stating that the camp was a humble beginning, he hoped that other useful activities would be taken up by the organisation in future.
During the camp, locals were also provided health check-up and medicines.
