THE SPIRIT OF DECEMBER!
The month of November turned out to be a bad one for Shillongites. The month began with tension and ended with more. First it was the violence on the streets of Shillong towards the end of October that led to a sense of fear and anxiety. As the city slowly limped back to normalcy, the unfortunate incident at Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills gave rise to violent repercussions in the city, throwing normalcy out of gear once again.
November was supposed to be a month of jollity and conviviality. The streets of Shillong should have been full of merry-making and touristic revelry.
Several festivals had been lined up, one followed by another. The city was also starting to be draped in a pink hue.
But things took a turn for the worse and all festivities were cancelled as a mark of respect for the lives lost at Mukroh.
As November gave way to December, the city seems to be, slowly but surely, headed towards a semblance of normalcy. It appears as if the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ is slowly making its presence felt in this lovely town.
December is a month when we are encouraged to be joyful, charitable, generous, kind and forgiving.
Let us hope that we are able to rekindle this spirit inside us and embrace the true spirit of the month.
“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.”

Winter’s fashion
Fashion in Shillong is at its peak in winters. People have already begun getting their winter garments out of the closet, dusting them off, getting them dried and cleansed. It’s one striking element about Shillongites, who will impress you in winters, regardless.
Every other evening is getting chillier in this town, or so it seems. And there’s a change.
Take a brisk walk on the city streets and you’ll find that people look as though they have put on some weight, when it’s simply extra layers of clothes. Or does winter really make you healthier? We do not know.
What we do know is the cityscape will soon be strewn with fashionistas clad in long coats, blazers, woollen sweaters, attractive mufflers, exquisite jackets adorned with fur (a tell-tale sign of winter), you name it!
So, would you want to be a part of this vogue, too?
