Awareness for WJH sericulture farmers

SHILLONG, Dec 7: The Research Extension Centre, Shillong, in coordination with Sericulture and Weaving department, on Tuesday organised an awareness programme for over 100 sericulture farmers from Bamthong and nearby villages in West Jaintia Hills.
“Dr. N.Balachandran Scientist-D, REC-Shillong explained in detail the package of practices for mulberry cultivation to produce quality mulberry leaves, disinfection and maintenance of hygiene in rearing, importance of chawki rearing, late-age rearing management practices for successful bivoltine crop harvest to the beneficiaries,” a statement in this regard said.
During the programme, the farmers were also asked to go for both spring and autumn crops in a year to boost income from sericulture.
