SHILLONG, Dec 8: Whilst Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce its candidate from North Shillong constituency for upcoming Assembly elections, two major contenders, M Kharkrang and Michael Kharsyntiew, are leaving no stone unturned to secure a party ticket from the constituency.
While the question mark continues over the party candidature from North Shillong, required surveys are also under way to discern who is the most deserving out of the two.
The party leadership, too, is mum on the matter.
Kharsyntiew, who has been in the BJP for quite some time now, had unsuccessfully contested the 2018 Assembly elections from Mawhati on a BJP ticket. After suffering a defeat, he later switched his focus to the North Shillong constituency.
On the other hand, retired senior police officer Mariahom Kharkrang, who is a new entrant in the party, was not only elected as a member of the BJP state executive committee but was also named as the party spokesperson immediately after joining the saffron fold.
As the competition intensifies with each passing day, Kharkrang on Thursday also organised an enrolment drive for the party at Khyndai Lad with support from the BJP women wing and was able to enrol over 300 people in the saffron fold.
