SHILLONG, Dec 11: Almost three weeks after trigger-happy Assam police and forest guard personnel killed five villagers in Mukroh and despite assurance the Centre is yet to issue the notification ordering a CBI probe into the killings.
Soon after the five villagers were killed, a delegation of cabinet ministers, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought a CBI inquiry.
Shah had agreed to a CBI inquiry and assured that the notification would be issued shortly.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, the CM had said that he demanded justice for lives lost in the firing and sought action against those responsible.
Reacting strongly to the delay in issuing the notification, Mawlai MLA Process T Sawkmie said the Centre has forgotten its promise.
“It is nearly three weeks but we are yet to see the notification,” he said.
Asking the Meghalaya government to immediately pursue the matter with the Centre, Sawkmie said people were awaiting justice. “This dilly-dally tactic will not work and inquiry orders must be issued immediately,” he added.
