TURA, Dec 12: Arguably the biggest crowd to have ever gathered for an evening of rock, Baljek Airport in Jengjal, West Garo Hills, became the cynosure of all eyes with more than 50,000 music lovers from Garo Hills thronging the venue to enjoy an evening of fun, frolic and food, immersed with dollops of music.
While the day began normally for folks of the area, it descended into a crescendo by the evening with the star act, Michael Learns To Rock (MLTR), belting out their hit to the delight and entertainment of the crowd.
The two-day festival will continue till Tuesday with many bands from the Garo Hills region as well as from the rest of the country looking forward to enthralling the crowd, which is likely to be the same on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that the two-day festival had replaced the Megong Festival, which was cancelled due to the firing incident in Mukroh.
The day began with music from a local solo artist, Lening Sangma, who enthralled those present with his own hit numbers. The next on the line-up was a fashion show by local designer, Daisy Momin.
Next on the stage was the evergreen RipRap, whose powerful vocals and intense music set the stage alight. An already warmed-up crowd began to sing with the band and its vocalist, Browny Marak, which was quite a sight to behold.
The crowd was also provided a pleasant surprise with Antu R Marak, the Bangladeshi Garo artiste who performed two of his most popular numbers for the people.
Antu is also due to perform on Tuesday along with Big Mountain, another rock show expected to continue the entertainment.
Many popular bands from Garo Hills are also set to perform on Tuesday.
The next act that continued the rock show was the much-touted Girish and the Chronicles, whose hard-belting numbers evoked an other-worldly feeling.
They sang their most heard numbers to the delight of the crowd that kept swelling through the evening.
By the time MLTR took over the stage, the entire area was chock-a-block with music lovers filling almost the entirety of the airstrip at the Baljek Airport.
