SHILLONG, Dec 15: The state government on Thursday assured the High Court of Meghalaya that further felling of trees on the Anjalee-crossing to Jhalupara will not be undertaken before the matter is taken up again in the Court.
The assurance came from the state government after K Paul, a practicing advocate, filed a petition in the public interest pertaining to the alleged proposal to axe approximately 103 trees between the Anjalee-crossing to Jhalupara for the purpose of widening of the national highway.
The state submitted through the Advocate-General that it is the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited which is undertaking the work.
“Let such Corporation and the other unserved respondents be served immediately,” the order said.
The court requested N Mozika, DSGI, to look into the matter on behalf of the NHIDCL.
The matter would be heard again on Friday.
