SHILLONG, Dec 15: TMC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale on Thursday filed an interim application in the High Court of Meghalaya praying that the National People’s Party (NPP) be de-recognized and its symbol withdrawn before the case pertaining to non-submission of the 2018 election expenditure report is decided by the court.
In a statement, Gokhale said the interim application has been moved considering that the High Court will be in recess till January 27, 2023 by which time it is anticipated that elections will be notified and the main case will, in all likelihood, not be heard before the Assembly polls.
Stating that the NPP was de-recognized in 2015 by the ECI for the same default, he said, “The application, therefore, prays that the Meghalaya High Court be pleased to pass an interim order directing the Election Commission to de-recognize the NPP and withdraw its election symbol considering the 2015 action as a precedent.”
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya TMC on Thursday claimed that the allegations and claims of its national spokesperson (Saket Gokhale) against the state government were based on facts and not fiction.
“Saket Gokhale has brought up these issues after he has scrutinised all the documents that were available to him and in the domain,” TMC state president Charles Pyngrope said.
On the state government filing a case against him, Pyngrope said, “The government is free…it is an independent country…you can do what you want to. The court of law is available for everyone. If they want to file a case to counter his claim they are most welcome.”
