No harassment, arrest of border residents: Police

SHILLONG, Dec 16: Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi Thursday paid a visit to Umsaw Lumdorbar village on the Assam-Meghalaya border to take stock of the ground situation, according to Ri-Bhoi Police.
The DGP, during his visit, also held a meeting with the senior officials from District Administration, Forest and Police department of Assam.
He also discussed various issues with the Rangbah Shnongs of the border areas during the meeting at Mawlasnai Outpost and assured all necessary assistance for the security of the villagers.
Based on the outcome of the meeting, it was clarified that there will be no restriction on movement of villagers in bordering areas for day-to-day activities and that no arrests or harassments of residents in border areas have been reported.
The police have also appealed to the public to not pay heed to rumours so that peace and harmony prevail in the border areas.
“In case of any emergency in border areas, the public have been requested to immediately contact the District Administration/Police Department of Ri-Bhoi District for further assistance,” the police said.
