SHILLONG, Dec 19: Soon after joining the NPP on Monday, Ampareen Lyngdoh made a vitriolic attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), stating that its “proxy entry” into the state is not a healthy trend.
Addressing a press conference at the NPP office, Lyngdoh said the 12 Congress MLAs, who had defected to the TMC, ideally should have resigned and sought a fresh mandate from the people.
“Don’t allow the proxy entry of political parties as it will result in unhealthy politics. The people will lose out in the long run, not the individuals,” she said.
The BJP recently castigated Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. Lyngdoh said there seems to be some confusion prevailing in the BJP. She said she is going with what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said and not the leaders of the party. The PM appreciated the CM, she pointed out.
She said she does not see any reason for the people not to support the NPP.
Lyngdoh does not foresee early implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP). She said the state should not be hopeful about its implementation before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as the Centre has a lot of things to concentrate on. She assured to partner with different political parties on the ILP issue.
“The NPP and its coalition partners have taken a decision to operationalise the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, which I feel is a step in the right direction,” she said.
She was hopeful the NPP would be able to solve the state’s boundary dispute with Assam. She claimed the party has already taken a very strong position on the issue.
On the demand for the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Lyngdoh said the government has already sent necessary documentations to the Centre in support of the demand.
On the peace talks with the HNLC, she said there should be a proper plan of action so that the process can reach its logical end.
